ABOUT ME!

Hi! My name is Srividhya and I am an undergraduate student at NYU (New York University) studying Integrated Design and Media. I am a very passionate artist, and consider myself an artist of multiple disciplines. I am a visual artist, working mostly in mixed media, currently working towards integrating technology into my work.

A little bit about my background:

Fantasia was one of the first films I watched that drew me into the wonders of animation. From the pulsating, coordinating circles, sparkles, and lines of the first composition to the harsh linework and lighting of Chernabog's entry, and the soft, rich color of the Pastoral Symphony, Fantasia captivated me completely. This early fascination with animation and filmmaking was complemented by my love for engineering, sparked by a documentary series about the creation of Disneyland parks. The principles of Imagineering were truly inspiring, showcasing how engineering knowledge could produce artistic, moving creations that take viewers on magical experiences and rides.

Growing up, I straddled two distinct identities: Indian at home and American at school. This search for a combined personal style, starting with my clothing, led to a mixed-media approach in my artwork, where I communicated multiple themes using chaotic compositions and filling the entire canvas, much like my own loud, maximalist style. I valued the details, textures, and movement of the stroke, trusting my instincts. Despite my love for the visual arts and a deep interest in STEM subjects being viewed as opposites, I yearned to pursue both to the fullest. By forging my own path in school, I took engineering design classes, joined my school’s Engineering Academy, and enrolled in AP Art. The intersections between traditional right-brain and left-brain fields became apparent to me.

Embracing the trial and error that shaped my artwork as I sought my personal style has allowed me to grow in ways I did not imagine and given me great satisfaction as I watched it develop into a finished product. Using technology, I aspire to present art in various forms of digital media: simulations, animations, and AR and VR worlds. My goal is to use my creations as a vehicle to bring diverse perspectives and unique stories around the themes of identity, origin, heritage, and personal history to the forefront of mainstream media.
