College traditionally marks the end of childhood. It is the first time you experience true independence, living on your own, and all the perks and responsibilities of being an adult. This transition often bring about reflections upon your childhood. Before entering college myself, I found myself pondering my own experiences while under my parents’ roof. I analyzed my deepest desires, regrets, and reflected upon my memories. What would I have changed? What could I have done differently? What did I want when I ws younger? DO I still want that? How have both my aspirations and myself evolved? These ruminations manifested into a small project, a zine where I wrote a a reponse to a letter I wrote in my freshman year, relaying my experiences and imparting my lessons. I added photos tracking me from my youth to my current appearance, and painting images that juxtaposed my younger self with my cureent self.
After this project, i was reminded of the project I tried to start in my senior year of high school, interviewing people about their unique experiences and background, analyzing what shaped who they are today. I wanted to use this project currently to fuse the two and offer others the chance to reflect on their childhood experiences as I posit some questions about their experiences. Childhood to me consists of 3 things, dreaming, learning and growing. I am curious how these 3 things apply to others' childhoods and what they have learned from your 18+ years of life.
